Pokey LaFarge at Kessler Theater
Kelly Dearmore Recommends
In country music, all too often, an artist that simply sounds old-timey is confused for a true hardcore country throwback. There are plenty of Nudie-suited pretenders out there who look the part, and in certain ways, they may even sound the part. But few are the artists who so completely fit the bill of an artist from another place in time to the point of being as fresh and current as they come. Over a decade ago, before becoming a popular draw on the country and Americana touring circuit, Pokey LaFarge busked for dollars after hitchhiking his way to the west coast. If that’s not the stuff of a troubadour, nothing is.
