When the moon starts inching across the sun for the much-buzzed-about solar eclipse on Aug. 21, where will you be? There are plenty of options, but the Dallas Arboretum offers a particularly appealing one. From 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., groove to an eclipse-themed playlist, snack on treats from the Kona Ice truck and play oversized lawn games as the sky grows dimmer. You’ll receive free eclipse-viewing glasses to keep your peepers safe. As an added bonus, admission — and popsicles — are just $1 as part of August Dollar Days.

View the unforgettable solar eclipse with complimentary special viewing glasses at the Arboretum's Minutes of Midnight Solar Eclipse Party, brought to you by Sunfinity Solar. Bring a picnic lunch or buy a $2 hot dog from the Terrace Café and a cool treat from Kona Ice. Listen to an eclipse-themed play list during the eclipse, play Jumbo lawn games such as Jenga, Connect Four and Yardzee. Admission is $1, plus an additional $1 for entrance into the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden. Parking is $5.
