Penny and Sparrow at Granada Theater

It’s not as though sensitive, forlorn folk sounds ever went out of style. But in the past decade, especially since Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon emerged from that fateful Wisconsin cabin with his For Emma, Forever Ago, audiences have really embraced bearded, introspective acoustic ruminations with particular fervor. Austin’s folk-y singer-songwriting duo Penny and Sparrow have certainly felt that influence and have established themselves quickly as a reliable source of songs that are both ethereal and earthy. The duo’s latest record, the gorgeous Wendigo, is rife with elegant harmonies and expertly-crafted storytelling.
