Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet - I Came for the Light and Stayed for the Shadows and Solaris on 35MM at Texas Theatre
For its latest movie-inspired performance, Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet has created the multimedia I Came for the Light and Stayed for the Shadows in reaction to Andrei Tarkovsky’s 1972 space-set Solaris, which screens in 35 mm after the dance. Light/Shadows features a solo and two duets by guest choreographer Danielle Georgiou and company artistic director Emilie Skinner that play off of the film’s imagery and themes, including loss of identity, the feeling of floating and falling in space and the characters’ anger and bargaining through emotional crises, Skinner and Georgiou say. The piece is named for the accompanying music and projected video by the group Nocturne Blue and will be recorded for the web series Bishop Arts Live.
