The Bottle Rockets and Marshall Crenshaw at Live Oak Music Hall and Lounge
Darryl Smyers Recommends
For nearly 25 years, St. Louis’ Bottle Rockets have been making their glorious countrified noise. Along with Uncle Tupelo, Brian Henneman and crew are considered the founding fathers of the alt-country genre. While the Bottle Rockets have never been as edgy as bands such as Wilco, their consistency and spirit have always shone through. Songs such as “Radar Gun,” “Welfare Music” and “Sunday Sports” (all from 1994’s Brooklyn Side) show humor, wit and wisdom to spare. If you mixed the Replacements at their catchiest with Neil Young and Crazy Horse at their loudest, you would have a pretty good idea of what the Bottle Rockets have to say. This is a special daytime show, so go caffeinated.
