"Election" isn't known to be on everyone's radar. I'll admit, at first watch, the movie might be a complete turn off and very odd. But for those who gave it multiple views, I think we can admit it's a great film! Reese Witherspoon's performance as an ambitious Tracy Flick alone is enough to make you appreciate this movie.

"Women In Film Presents" is monthly series at the Alamo Drafthouse in partnership with Women Texas Film Festival celebrating female-centric films and female filmmakers, programmed and hosted by members of Women In Film and Women Texas Film Festival. This special showing of Election will feature a post-movie panel discussion.

Over his career Alexander Payne has become one of the most original comedic voices in American movies and ELECTION, his second feature, is the best example of his ability to unfold intelligent satire and human drama out of any situation.

His palette here is a Nebraska high school election where three candidates emerge; the overachieving, intelligent, but arrogant Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon), everyone’s favorite jock Paul Metzler (Chris Klein) and his rebellious sister Tammy (Jessica Campbell), and one adult; the school's quaint government teacher Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick).
