Known simply as Kaws, the Brooklyn-based artist, born in 1974, has become a global sensation for his large sculptures and other works that combine elements of popular culture with the craft of high art. This large retrospective is in a tradition of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to bring attention to relatively young American artists with exhibitions of the scale and importance of those usually reserved for mature artists. Lucky Kaws for the exposure. Lucky us for being able to judge his work in the beautiful setting of the Modern before the exhibition travels to China.
