Though I'd lived in Dallas for well over a decade, it never occurred to me that the Dallas Arboretum would be a fabulous place to enjoy the holidays. It's not just for springtime, folks: this jewel near White Rock Lake turns into a winter wonderland, with a walking tour of twelve enchanting Christmas scenes. We're calling it a new family tradition.

Celebrate the holidays like never before with this centerpiece exhibit featuring an elaborate collection of 25-foot Victorian gazebos filled with the charming costumed characters and whimsical animals made famous by the beloved Christmas carol. Each gazebo will be encased in glass and extravagantly decorated on all sides to provide a dramatic, three-dimensional experience, and will feature mechanical parts and festive music that will assist in bringing the characters to an even more life-like state. Enjoy the .75-mile walk through the garden exhibit, as you witness these handcrafted gazebos spread across our winter wonderland.

Day-time admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for children 3-12, and free for children two and under. Additional cost of $3 per person for entrance into the Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden. On-site parking is $15; pre-purchased online parking is $8.

12 Days of Christmas at Night: The Arboretum is open for special lighted nighttime showings on Wednesdays through Sundays, Nov. 9 through Dec. 30, (except for Nov. 24 and Dec. 24-25). A variety of holiday music is provided throughout the garden. Seasonal sweet and savory treats and hot beverages for children and adults are available for purchase. In addition, starting on November 30, the DeGolyer House will be open Wednesday evenings during 12 Days of Christmas at Night for guests to enjoy the new Santa Claus exhibit in the lavishly decorated, historic DeGolyer House, on loan from members of Junior League of Dallas. Night-time admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for children 3-12, and free for children two and under.
