You don’t have to run a single mile — let alone 26.2 of them — to enjoy this exciting weekend of endurance feats. It’s free (and arguably much more fun) to cheer competitors from the comfort of a cozy home lawn or rollicking bar patio along the race course. Make a funny sign to encourage runners tackling distances ranging from a children’s fun run on Dec. 8 to a new 50K ultramarathon on Dec. 9. If you’d rather run, it’s not too late to register. Courses tour Dallas’ iconic neighborhoods such as Downtown, Highland Park, White Rock Lake and Deep Ellum.

Thousands of spectators will line the streets on Dec. 9 to cheer on runners in Dallas’ largest annual single-day sporting event, which features a marathon, a half marathon and a five-person relay race. The fun and memorable city race features a course that highlights iconic Dallas landmarks. The BMW Dallas Marathon, which is Texas’ oldest marathon, attracts runners from every state and across the globe each December. Race proceeds are donated to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

The weekend starts with the Health and Fitness Expo at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 7 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 8. The two-day event will be filled with merchandise, information and exhibits related to the running, fitness and health industries. It will also serve as the official packet pick-up location for all runners. Admission is free.

For 2018, the marathon weekend again expands to include the Saturday 5K and 10K races, plus the 2-mile walk and kids races, which will start and finish at Dallas City Hall Plaza.
