‘I take pictures of people on the street and ask them questions,” Brandon Stanton, creator of the photo project-slash-New York Times best-seller "Humans of New York," says in his Twitter bio. But his combination of photographs and often poignant captions are more than that: They merge art and storytelling, giving millions of fans on social media emotional insight into the lives of characters from around the globe. Stanton will deliver a presentation about his work for the first installment of this season’s University of North Texas Distinguished Lecture Series.

Brandon Stanton graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in History. He traded bonds in Chicago for three years, before losing this job and moving to New York. In November of 2010, he started the photography blog Humans of New York. Today, Humans of New York is followed by nearly 14 million people and is the fastest growing Arts and Humaninties page on Facebook.
