Women Galore: Celebrating Women Words

The Wild Detectives presents a month-long festival of events celebrating the work of women in the arts. Events, curated by arts writer Lauren Smart, include author talks, panel discussions, solo performances, a comedy showcase, backyard mini music fest, DJ nights, poetry readings, poetry performance, film screening and writing workshops.

The festival kicks off May 1 with "The Art of Translation," a panel discussion hosted by Deep Vellum Publishing and featuring Shelby Vincent (translatoar of Carmen Boullosa’s Heavens on Earth) and Lauren Smart.

May 5 - 9pm - Performance: Thirsty Thursday - Women Galore Edition with Lauren Mishoe, Claire Carson, Sarah Hamilton, Bao Ngoc Le and Abigail Birkett

May 9 - 7.30pm - Poetry Performance: Brand New Ancients with Katherine Bourne

May 10 - 7.30pm - Reading: New Work with Merritt Tierce & Kendra Greene

May 11 - 9pm - Play: Three Playwrights, Three Pieces, Three Performers with Shelby-Allison Hibbs, Hannah Weir and Zoe Kerr

May 12 - 7.30pm - Reading: Sunset City with Melissa Ginsburg

May 15 - Time TBA - Screening + Discussion: River of Grass, a film by Kelly Reichardt, with Justina Walford. NOTE: This event will be held at the Texas Theatre in Oak Cliff.

May 16 - 7.30pm - Poetry Reading And Discussion: Literary Underground with Courtney Marie, Leah Tieger, Fatima-Hayan Malika Hirsi, Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam and Bess Whitby

May 17 - 7.30pm - Poetry Reading: Dark Moon Poetry Arts

May 21 - 11pm - Workshop: Arts writing workshop with Justine Ludwig (Senior Curator at Dallas Contemporary)

May 24 - 7.30pm - Reading: 12 Random Words / 12 Palabras al Azar with Fabiana Elsa Martínez

May 26 - 7.30pm - Play: Sexual Geography with Goat Song Theatre Collective
