The Big Squeeze 2019 at Latino Cultural Center
Ann Pinson Recommends
If you have any preconceived notions about accordion players, this event just might help you dispel them. The youthful enthusiasm for accordion music is contagious at this showcase for musicians who are 21 or younger. Plus, it's free to attend, including a post-show performance from Tejano star Michael Salgado.
Hear up-and-coming Texas accordionists, 21 years and younger, as they compete for a spot in the annual Accordion Kings & Queens Festival to be held in Houston this summer. Three accordion genres will be represented at the festival: polka, zydeco and Tejano. Those interested in trying out should arrive at 5 p.m.
The event will also feature live music by Grammy Award-winning musician Sunny Sauceda, former Big Squeeze Conjunto Champions Nachito Morales with Los Morales Boyz and Luis Gonzalez.
Presented by Texas Folklife, a non-profit organization devoted to presenting and preserving the diverse cultures of Texas. Bring a lawnchair and enjoy this outdoor concert.
