Edgefest 24

The last time Beck played Edgefest, in 1997, he was riding high on his cut-and-paste masterpiece Odelay, but he was still a mere opening act (for INXS, in one of Michael Hutchence’s last shows). Seventeen years later, the genre-blurring rocker finally gets to headline KDGE-FM (102.1)’s Edgefest 24 on a marathon bill featuring fellow American rockers Grouplove and Cage the Elephant and the English band Bastille. Beck recently released Morning Phase, a follow-up to his equally delicate 2002 CD Sea Change. But if his Coachella set this month is any indication, he’s likely to skip the mellow gold this weekend in favor of stadium-size crowd-pleasers like “Girl” and “Devil’s Haircut.”

Preceding Beck on the main stage are North Carolina’s Avett Brothers, arguably the best of the banjo-fueled folk-rock revival bands. Judging from their June show headlining KXT-FM’s Summer Cut festival, the boisterous Avetts could be a very hard act to follow. Full lineup below.
