Dallas yoga studio to host silent session in memory of slain dentist

Yogis believe one of the fundamental pathways to a harmonious internal life is found through forming a rooted connection to the earth. Sometimes the best way to heal is to start from the ground up.

On Saturday, May 21, Bikram Yoga Dallas hopes to return some semblance of balance by holding a 90-minute silent session in honor of Kendra Hatcher, a Bikram Yoga Dallas community member who was murdered last fall outside her Uptown apartment.

Beginning at noon Saturday, the class will be led without dialogue or verbal instruction by studio owner Karen Buckner. Bikram-style yoga sessions include a series of 26 postures practiced in a heated room. The poses are performed sequentially, with each preparing the body for the next, and emphasis is placed on controlled breathing as a centering method.

Hatcher was a pediatric dentist who, according to the studio, "had a strong desire to help children in need." A suggested donation of $20 for the class will go directly to her patients so that they can continue receiving dental care.

The special class is open to current members only. Those wishing to sign up may do so online. Those unable to attend the class may consider a donation to Hatcher's "favorite causes" via the family's GoFundMe page.
