Updated at 12:39 p.m. to include more details about the project site.

There's a new movie theater coming to Garland with some extra entertainment value.

Strike and Reel, as the new concept is called, will be a 90,000-square-foot theater and attached bowling alley near the George Bush Tollway and Holford Road. Though it is still in the planning phase, the venue is expected to open in 2019, according to a statement.

The land slated for the new location is at the same intersection earlier eyed by Plano-based Cinemark, the nation's third largest movie theater chain. Asked about the development late last year, Cinemark said plans still were being development. Officials wth Cinemark could not be reached early Thursday.

Strike and Reel will join North Texas' growing list of movie theaters that offer more than just a flick. Flix Brewhouse in Little Elm, for example, is also a working brewery. The AMC Theater at Fort Worth's Shops at Clearfork development sits adjacent to Pinstripes Bistro, Bowling and Bocce, an entertainment venue featuring all of the above. And the new Alamo Drafthouse opening in Frisco in 2020 is expected to be part video rental store.
