There's a new movie theater coming to Garland with some extra entertainment value.
Strike and Reel, as the new concept is called, will be a 90,000-square-foot theater and attached bowling alley near the George Bush Tollway and Holford Road. Though it is still in the planning phase, the venue is expected to open in 2019, according to a statement.
Strike and Reel comes from Entertainment Properties Group, Inc., which also operates Pinstack bowling alleys in Plano, Las Colinas and Allen. Plans for the venue include movie screens and a restaurants onsite, plus video games and additional attractions in the bowling alley area.
"We have been working on this concept for quite some time and we are excited to announce the first location here in our North Texas home," said Mark Moore, chief executive officer of Entertainment Properties Group.
The land slated for the new location is at the same intersection earlier eyed by Plano-based Cinemark, the nation's third largest movie theater chain. Asked about the development late last year, Cinemark said plans still were being development. Officials wth Cinemark could not be reached early Thursday.
Strike and Reel will join North Texas' growing list of movie theaters that offer more than just a flick. Flix Brewhouse in Little Elm, for example, is also a working brewery. The AMC Theater at Fort Worth's Shops at Clearfork development sits adjacent to Pinstripes Bistro, Bowling and Bocce, an entertainment venue featuring all of the above. And the new Alamo Drafthouse opening in Frisco in 2020 is expected to be part video rental store.
