State Fair of Texas photo contest champ gets himself in winning shot

Dallas resident Scott Meril's photo of the State Fair of Texas grounds before sunrise was selected the winner of the fair's photo contest powered by neighborsgo.

Meril's image was selected by the neighborsgo staff and photographers of The Dallas Morning News. His photo was among the finalists and runners-up in the four weekly contests posted to neighborsgo.com/statefairpics.

Meril will be awarded a $250 gift card from Arlington Camera.

Jones used a Canon Rebel for his winning shot. For shutterbugs, he listed his settings: F-stop at f/5.6, exposure at 1/80th second, I SO speed at iso-400, focal length at 23mm and max aperture at 3.625.

"People don't realize how much time, energy and love these kids put into their animals. With all of the noise about moving the State Fair of Texas out of Fair Park because it is only used be a few ... wish they would go this year and visit something besides the midway. Such a wonderful place to make memories."

Winner | Philip Todd, Far East Dallas

Todd's shot of a pig bursting through a brick wall during the Wild West Pet Palooza was our Week 4 winner. Todd said photography is one of his hobbies. No kidding. Todd admitted to taking 1,894 pictures at this year's fair. He used a Nikon D7100 with a 18-140mm zoom lens.

Week 4 runner-up | Steven Lee Nelson, Mesquite

Nelson's black-and-white photos of a young boy being shown how to blow a bubble was another of his slices of life shots on the midway. Nelson, who is a disabled U.S. Navy veteran, is a fan of nature/macro and street photography.

Week 4 runner-up | Paullus Armstrong II, Dallas

Armstrong's photo of a midway worker surrounded by his prizes was posted on Instagram.
