Before Guyton established himself as a first-round draft pick at Oklahoma, he began his collegiate career in Fort Worth. He played at TCU for two seasons before transferring to Oklahoma before the 2022 season.

Guyton appeared in a game against Kansas during his true freshman season in 2020, then split time between offensive tackle and H-back for eight games in 2021. One of Guyton’s highlights from his TCU stint was a six-yard touchdown reception against Iowa State. Here’s a look at that play:

3. Newest product from OU’s OL pipeline

By now, most NFL followers know Oklahoma as a pipeline for NFL offensive linemen. Trent Williams, Creed Humphrey and Lane Johnson are a few of the league’s former Sooner standouts. Guyton is looking to be the next player in that group.

In March, Oklahoma offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh broke down some of Guyton’s film as he was preparing for the NFL draft. While Guyton was lined up right tackle for most of the 2023 season, Bedenbaugh was impressed with his ability to push a defensive lineman out from his original stance.

“Most guys that come here have a goal of playing at the next level and a lot of them don’t realize really how hard it is,” Bedenbaugh said.

4. Texas kid

Prior to his time at Oklahoma and TCU, Guyton grew up in Manor. The Texas town sits east of Austin.

He played basketball and baseball at Manor High School before taking up football his senior year. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Guyton is just the third Austin-area player to go in the NFL draft’s first round in the last 10 years. He joins other names like Baker Mayfield and Garrett Wilson.

5. Took up football late as a high schooler

While Guyton enjoyed baseball and basketball as a high schooler in Manor, he didn’t take up football until his senior season.

According to Colton Sulley of The Oklahoman, Guyton joined the football team after receiving some encouragement from his father. He suited up as an interior defensive lineman and totaled seven sacks, helping the Mustangs advance to the 2020 Class 5A Division I regional finals.
