We can't post GIFs from the Rio Olympics, so here are our faves from years past

Many writers at media outlets across the country are bummed out because the Olympic Committee banned news organizations from using GIFs from this year's Rio games.

Although we are sure that GIFs from the Rio Olympics will be all over Tumblr, credentialed news organizations are pretty much out of luck. (That is, unless you're NBC.)

We will not let this year's ban stop us from celebrating the glory of Olympic GIFs. Here are five of our favorite Olympian GIFs from past years:

This Australian athlete and model is participating in the women's 100m hurdles competition this year.

Michelle became a worldwide celebrity during the 2012 World Junior Championships for her colorful warm-up routine, which of course was GIF-gold. (There's an epic side-eye version here.)

Michelle Jenneke is also the face of Coca-Cola's newest Olympic-theme ad.

Michael Phelps: Anime Edition

When you're the most decorated Olympian of all time, it's not uncommon for people to wonder if you have some super-human, or Super Saiyan abilities.

After breaking down at the 2012 Olympics, Anna made everyone else cry this year by delivering an emotional speech at the Official Flag Raising ceremony in Rio. She leads Australia's cycling team, which the The Sydney Morning Herald is pretty excited about.

Hopefully we are all cried out for this year.

Matthias Steiner almost gets there

Epic.

Despite this painful mishap, the Austrian-German weightlifter did win gold at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Matthias accepted the gold medal while holding a picture of his wife, who unexpectedly died in a car accident the year before. There's a pretty compelling video about Matthias' Olympic journey here.
