In 2005, Thom Mayne won the Pritzker Architecture Prize, the profession's highest honor. He's a Los Angeles-based architect whose work has been showered with more than 100 design awards over 30 years. It's no secret then that many are thrilled to have him design the new Museum of Nature & Science facility at Victory Park.

Mr. Mayne was in Dallas on Thursday night at the Nasher Salon Lecture Series at the Nasher Sculpture Center. As moderator David Dillon noted, it's fitting that an LA architect design this building, whose 4.7 acres is surrounded by an elevated freeway (Woodall Rodgers), the end of the Dallas North Tollway, a rail line, "so-so" apartments and vacant lots.

Mr. Mayne smiled and said he welcomed the challenge.
