Disc Debuts: CDs, DVDs and video games released this week12:00 AM CDT on Tuesday, July 22, 2008CDs Big Daddy Weave, What Life Would Be Like (Fervent) – Five-man Christian rock band from Mobile, Ala., delivers its sixth studio album, a collection of new songs that follows 2006's well-received Every Time I Breathe. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, CSNY/Deja Vu Live (Warner Bros.) – Music from 2006's Freedom of Speech Tour, the band's return to sociopolitical performances, features CSNY classics and anti-war songs from Neil Young. Miley Cyrus, Breakout (Hollywood) – Now a brunette and aiming for grown-up credentials, Ms. Cyrus ditches the Hannah Montana guise and goes pop-rock on a batch of songs she co-wrote and two covers, "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "These Four Walls." Archie Fisher, Windward Away (Red House Records) – Scotland-born folk singer offers his first new studio recording in 20 years, an album of ballads from Scottish border country dealing with "sea and land, love and loneliness." Noel Gourdin, After My Time (Epic) – Newcomer's debut disc finds him heavily influenced by classic soul as well as contemporary R&B and even hip-hop. The music on the CD is said to have an intimate vibe befitting his attention-getting vocals. Buddy Guy, Skin Deep (Zomba) – American blues and rock guitarist employs the help of a slew of guests on his newest studio disc, including Eric Clapton, Derek Trucks, Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and Willie Mitchell. Nine Inch Nails, The Slip (The Null Corporation) – This is the eighth studio album, and second release in 2008, for famed industrial rocker Trent Reznor and his revolving cast of sidemen, including co-producers Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder. One Day as a Lion, One Day as a Lion (Anti) – This five-song EP is the brainchild of Zach de la Rocha, formerly of Rage Against the Machine, and Jon Theodore, one-time drummer for the Mars Volta. Paul Weller, 22 Dreams (Yep Roc) – Ninth solo album from the British pop and rock master travels through rock, classical and funk as well as plenty of avant-garde musicianship characteristic of the former Jam and Style Council frontman. Mario Tarradell DVDs 21 – Kevin Spacey teaches his college whiz kids how to clean up at blackjack. Based on the best-seller Bringing Down the House. Vampyr – Surreal German horror movie from 1932 gets the Criterion treatment. Robot Chicken: Star Wars – Seth Green directs this parody of the sci-fi series that originally aired during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Picture This! – High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale stars as an unpopular girl (really?) who lands a date with the coolest guy in school, only to be grounded on the big day. Earth: The Biography – BBC series inspects the roles of volcanoes, oceans, ice, etc., in making up the Earth's landscape and climate Stephen Becker Video games Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns – Probably doesn't involve collecting welfare checks, but the title is certainly intriguing.
