SXSW music: Shattered expectations, happy surprises
AUSTIN – Sunday marked the end of South by Southwest – four days of ringing ears, too little sleep and too many people text messaging when they should've been watching. But for all the drawbacks, there was no shortage of great music: A record-breaking 1,700 acts performed at the festival, with hundreds of other nonofficial bands playing every street corner, record store and flat-bed truck across Austin.

Young Carrollton filmmaker competes at SXSW  AUSTIN – If Carrollton's John Gordon III isn't the youngest filmmaker at South by Southwest this year, he's close. The 15-year-old R.L. Turner sophomore's short film, To the Ends of the Earth, was accepted into the Texas High School Shorts competition and screened to a receptive house of parents and students Friday night at the Dobie Theater.
