Timeline: The adventures of Barney

1987: The first Barney home video is released.

1989: The Barney Fan Club launches in the U.S.

1992: Barney & Friends, the television series, is filmed in North Texas and debuts on PBS.

The series wins a Daytime Emmy Award.

1993: Barney takes part in President Clinton's inaugural celebration.

1994: Barney's first live concert premieres at Radio City Music Hall in New York; tickets for all 12 performances are sold out within an hour and a half.

1995: The giant Barney balloon makes its first appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

1996: Barney is named No. 1 Kids Artist by Billboard's "Year in Music," a title he will keep through 1998.

Barney's first live tour, Barney's Big Surprise, launches and is seen by almost 2 million fans in the U.S., Canada and Mexico during its two-year run.

1998: The first Barney feature film, Barney's Great Adventure , is released in the U.S.

Barney's second live tour, Barney's Musical Castle, tours the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) and Mexico.

2004: Barney's third live tour, Barney's Colorful World, launches and tours through the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), Ireland and the U.K. The production is seen by more than 1 million fans during its one-year run.

2006: Barney's fourth live tour, Barney Live! The Let's Go Tour, launches and tours through the U.S. and Canada.

2008: Barney launches his 20-city Big Purple Bus Tour in honor of his 20th anniversary.
