New this week on DVD12:00 AM CDT on Friday, July 18, 2008THE BANK JOB: This respectable mix of fact and fiction is inspired by the 1971 robbery of a bank in London by a group trying to retrieve some potentially scandalous photos of someone in the royal family, which are stashed inside a safe-deposit box in the vault. It's a solid, no-nonsense heist thriller, yet one that ultimately fails to distinguish itself from the many others of the genre. Starring Jason Statham, Saffron Burrows, Richard Lintern and David Suchet. Directed by Roger Donaldson. COLLEGE ROAD TRIP: Martin Lawrence plays a control-freak dad learning how to let go of his not-so- little girl (Raven-Symoné) as she prepares to leave for college. Parents can actually take young children to see this one and not cringe while they're watching. Also starring Donny Osmond. Directed by Roger Kumble. PENELOPE: Christina Ricci exudes charm and sweetness as a young woman cursed with a pig nose until she finds true love. The beauty-lies-within thing is timeworn, but it unfolds in such an original and unassuming fashion that Penelope feels springtime fresh. Also starring Reese Witherspoon, James McAvoy and Catherine O'Hara. Directed by Mark Palansky. STEP UP 2 THE STREETS: This retread of the You Got Served/Stompin' the Yard step-dancing fad films finds a young woman (Briana Evigan) growing up in Baltimore who struggles to fit in at a prestigious dance academy. Also starring Robert Hoffman and Will Kemp. Directed by Jon Chu. COMING TUESDAY 21 Robot Chicken: Star Wars Picture This!
