Writ Writer, airing at 10 tonight on KERA-TV (Channel 13), takes viewers back to a time (the 1960s and '70s) when prisoners had almost no rights. Through interviews, video and photographs, the hourlong documentary tells the story of Fred Cruz, who transformed himself from hard-luck petty criminal into a jailhouse crusader who changed the way Texas prisons are run.
