Alan Peppard: Who autographed Jessica's gift to Tony?

12:00 AM CST on Sunday, January 13, 2008

Alan Peppard apeppard@dallasnews.com

Both before and after her much photographed trip to Cabo with Tony Romo, column fave Jessica Simpson was camped out in a suite at Hotel ZaZa. And thank you, Jess, for chatting in the lobby where lots of people could hear.

The Dukes of Hazzard star was carrying a flat rectangular box. When asked if it was something for Tony, she replied that it was. She said the gift had the words to "our song" printed on it and it was signed by Bruce Springsteen.

The blond beauty said she was turning back into a Dallas girl, "but that's what happens when your boyfriend lives here."

On another occasion at the hotel, Jessica was overheard saying she bought Tony a guitar and a tuner.

BTW, Jessica travels with lots and lots of luggage. She added to her haul with a stash of loaded shopping bags, including several from Intermix at NorthPark.

Faces in the 'Moon'

Sunday night, CBS begins airing Comanche Moon, the much-anticipated prequel to Lonesome Dove. Viewers will see a few familiar faces from this area, two of them named Baker.

Fort Worth-based actor Charles Baker is playing the part of Monkey John, and former Dallasite Troy Baker (no relation) plays Pea Eye Parker.

Charles Baker is a veteran of Chuck Norris' Walker, Texas Ranger series as well as local theater productions at Stage West, Circle Theatre and the Hip Pocket Theatre.

As for Troy Baker, he lives in LA now, but locals will remember him as the lead singer of the Dallas band Tripp Fontaine.

Something about Nancy

Why did Hall of Fame basketball player Nancy Lieberman look particularly fetching during dinner Wednesday at Stephan Pyles? She arrived at the Arts District restaurant after posing for a photo shoot.

Former Jose Eber Salons vice president Sherry Gilderoy styled Nancy for her lens time.

BLT power meal

As restaurant followers know, the initials of BLT Steak have nothing to do with bacon, lettuce or tomato.

The new Dallas steakhouse is the latest restaurant from New York chef Laurent Tourondel, and the name means Bistro Laurent Tourondel.

Like any self-respecting beef joint, BLT is drawing a power crowd. This weekend, Shelly Stein, senior managing director of Bear Stearns, and his wife, Barbara, threw a 50th birthday party for Barbara's brother, David Brickman, general counsel for Dallas-based Capital Senior Living.

Big screen for kids' doc

The Dallas Children's Theater will get 100 percent of the proceeds from the Feb. 1 grand opening of the new Studio Movie Grill at Central Expressway and Royal Lane. It will also be an opportunity to screen a new documentary about the DCT's work at its headquarters, the Rosewood Center.

The 23-minute film, On Stage at the Rosewood Center by Dallas filmmaker Kevin Nash, will play at the gala in addition to the evening's feature.
