Legal charges unlikely in Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy04:32 PM CST on Thursday, December 20, 2007Following everybody's initial "Eeeww!" reaction to the news that Jamie Lynn Spears, 16-year-old sister of Britney, is pregnant come two new questions: •Is boyfriend Casey Aldridge 18 or 19 years old? •Is their congress strictly legal? The Internet is buzzing that if he is indeed the dad-to-be, and the blessed event took place in her home state of Louisiana, then the act could be classified as a "felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile," defined as consensual activity "between someone age 19 or older and someone between age 12 and 17." The law is different in California, where Jamie Lynn resides while filming her Nickelodeon show, Zoey 101. But Casey could still be in trouble, according to criminal defense attorney Jim Hammer, if he's more than three years older than she is. Generally though, legal observers say any possible charges are very unlikely under the circumstances. And the New York Post quotes the Spears family's hometown copper, Deputy Sheriff Jimmy Travis of Tangipahoa Parish, La., as saying no statutes have been broken. "Sixteen and 18 is OK, 15 and 19 is not," he says.
