A few words with Robert Rey

12:00 AM CST on Monday, December 10, 2007

St. Petersburg Times

Dr. Robert Rey is one of the plastic surgeons whose personal and professional lives are chronicled on the E! reality show Dr. 90210. Although Dr. Rey's career allows his family to live the fab life – his 6-year-old, Sydney, attends school with Stevie Wonder's daughter – he said expensive plastic surgery is a last resort.

He's also developed his own line of shape-wear, a 15-piece collection of body suits, bras, waist cinchers and other lingerie, available at Sears and HSN.com.

Dr. Rey talked about why he puts up with frou-frou Beverly Hills surgeries and whether he has ever gone under the knife.

90210 is the sexiest ZIP code in the world, and then Sears is where we buy our tires. How did you form this partnership with Sears?

We wanted to be in the neighborhood with our audience, which is just regular Americans, not a few highfalutin girls in Beverly Hills or Fifth Avenue in New York.

What about men? What are some of their biggest insecurities?

The No. 1 thing we do for men is eyelid surgery. Why? The CEOs will sneak in here and say, "Hey Dr. Rey, don't tell anyone, but listen. I'm in my late 50s. I'm now CEO of the company, but I have this young guy chomping on my heels."

You don't look 46. Have you had any work done?

I had my nose done, because as a [tae kwon do] fighter, I'm proud to say I've been in 1,000 fights. I have two black belts. ... My nose, I've had to do twice, actually. [laughs] But it also made me a little more presentable for television, and so it was kind of a blessing in disguise.
