Before rising to fame on CW's Gossip Girl, pretty boy Chace Crawford tried various other gigs, including modeling. But being handled and positioned made him feel "like an animal," he says in the November issue of Details.

The actor says he had second thoughts initially about Gossip Girl , too. "I didn't even know if the show was going to last," he says, noting that he hedged his bets by asking co-star Ed Westwick to be his roommate so they could share expenses.

Chace, who grew up in Plano, says he wasn't anything like his preppy Gossip character, Nate Archibald, as a teen. "I'm pretty sure I wasn't having sex with any cougars," he says, referring to his current story line on the show.

The most "mind-blowingly inappropriate" thing he did in high school?

"An idiotic glass-punching thing" that left him with a scar on one wrist, the 23-year-old says.
