Pick a pumpkin patch or party02:26 PM CDT on Wednesday, October 15, 2008It's time to pick that perfect pumpkin. Why not make it a fun outing instead of a quick trip to the grocery store? Pack a camera for photo ops and hit the road. Here are some options for fun places to buy pumpkins. BIG ORANGE PUMPKIN FARM In addition to lots of jack-o'-lantern-worthy pumpkins, there will be a petting farm, hayrides, a goat bridge, a play area and a picnic area. Admission includes a hayride and feed for the animals. On weekdays, visitors will get free pumpkins. On weekends, they'll get free hot dogs. CORNERSTONE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH PUMPKIN PATCH Check out photo ops with seasonal cutouts, a mini golf course, and decorated and plain pumpkins for sale. ELVES CHRISTMAS TREE FARM Features hayrides, a maze, farm animals and chances to dress a scarecrow. The barn is full of regular and specialty pumpkins, as well as gourds and cornstalks. THE FLOWER MOUND PUMPKIN PATCH Take your pick from hundreds of pumpkins and snap pictures among the hay bales and seasonal cutouts. Organizers are collecting cans of food to donate to Christian Community Action. Hayrides and mini train rides are offered on Saturdays and Sundays. GREAT PUMPKIN FESTIVAL Features more than 20,000 decorative pumpkins and gourds, pumpkin-carving contests, a hay-bale maze and a pumpkin house. You can buy a pumpkin at the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch. GREEN MEADOWS PETTING FARM Visit the pumpkin patch, take a tractor-drawn hayride and meet the animals. HALL'S PUMPKIN FARM Take advantage of photo ops with scarecrows, haystacks, farm animals and a vintage tractor. There's also a corn maze, and hayrides take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. THE PUMPKIN EXPRESS This pumpkin patch features a mini train ride, a hay maze and Halloween backgrounds for photos. Gourds and Indian corn are available for purchase.
