INSIDE MAN Spike Lee applies the edgy style he normally uses for social exposés to the crime genre in this tense, expertly crafted melodrama. Clive Owen plays a smooth criminal who takes hostages after a bank robbery goes awry, with Denzel Washington as the detective trying to negotiate a safe outcome. Enter Jodie Foster as an executive whose ties to the bank president (Christopher Plummer) and self-insertion into the crisis could hurt more than help. (CC/HDTV) (2 hrs. 10 mins.) (9 p.m. MAX)
