'Idol:' Jason Castro's Neil Diamond songs, Paula Adbul's confusion

On Tuesday night, Paula Abdul stepped out of American Idol and into The Twilight Zone.

She got confused because of the format change. After each contestant sang the first of two Neil Diamond songs, the judges were told to quickly assess the situation before moving on to the second round.

Paula, in a hurry, summed up Jason Castro's performance of "Forever in Blue Jeans" this way: "I loved hearing your lower register." She went on: "But in the second song, I felt like your usual charm was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty. The two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four."

The crowd began to mumble out of utter confusion. Randy Jackson then broke the news to his fellow judge: "He's just done the first song."

"Oh my God, I thought you sang twice!" she said, to which Ryan Seacrest replied, "You're seeing the future, baby."

Where is Rod Serling when you need him? He'd clear all of this up.

Unfortunately, Paula happened to be spot-on in her premonition of Jason's second performance, which was a messy take on "September Morn." A disappointed Simon Cowell said, "This is not the Jason we put in the competition."

Winning praise all around was David Cook, who took two lesser-known Neil Diamond songs and made them catchy. Paula couldn't contain herself: "I'm already looking at the American Idol," she said.

And remember, folks, she can predict the future.
