Texas Ballet Theater dancers organize fundraising effort12:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, August 20, 2008While Texas Ballet Theater administrators rush to raise $1 million to $1.5 million in the next 60 days, dancers called a news conference Tuesday to announce their own campaign. Among their efforts: a garage sale and a bake sale. "In my opinion, there's nothing we can't do," said Justin Urso, who is in his fifth year with the company. "You've got 39 extremely smart, levelheaded people who are passionate about this goal, and that just seems like the right ingredient to making this work." As part of the "Get Behind the Ballet" campaign, the dancers plan to distribute fliers and put donation boxes in area businesses. Dancers also will put on a free performance and fashion show at 5 p.m. Friday at Galleria Dallas to help raise awareness. The garage and bake sales will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Texas Ballet Theater studio in Fort Worth. Other efforts, such as a benefit concert, are also being discussed. "The bottom line is, we need a half a million by the time we open at the Majestic on Sept. 12," said interim managing director Margo McCann.
