Cast changes at local theater offices
Wednesday was a big day for announcements of comings and goings on the area theater scene. Denton Yockey quits his job as Casa Mañana's boss as of Aug. 31. He will become president and executive producer of Kansas City's Starlight Theatre Association. Also, former Dallas Morning News critic Tom Sime is leaving his post as managing director of Contemporary Theatre of Dallas at the end of the season. He plans to move to New York to get involved in the commercial theater. There are plans for an off-off-Broadway production of his new play, Bloodletters, after its world premiere here in June. The Dallas Theater Center has hired area actor and playwright Lee Trull as associate artist and as the first of nine actors in the company it is assembling. The 28-year-old will remain a company member of Kitchen Dog Theater as he assumes the duties of local casting director and literary manager for the Theater Center. Lawson Taitte
CBS dominates Daytime Emmy nods
NEW YORK – CBS topped all networks and The Young & the Restless topped all shows Wednesday when nominations were announced for the 35th annual Daytime Emmy Awards. CBS netted 56 nominations, of which 17 were for The Young & the Restless, including a nomination for best daytime drama. PBS received 50 nominations, including 13 for Sesame Street. Two other programs, Guiding Light and One Life to Live, also received 13 nominations, while As the World Turns received 12. This year's split of the talk-show category into two awards could shake things up. Ellen, which has been named best talk show every year since 2004, is vying this year with Rachael Ray and The View in the talk show/entertainment category. The other category, talk show/informative, pits PBS' A Place of Our Own against Dr. Phil and The Tyra Banks Show. The awards will be handed out June 20 in Hollywood and televised on ABC.
