New York Fashion Week: No beach necessary09:50 AM CDT on Thursday, September 11, 2008NEW YORK – The spring 2009 designs we're seeing are bold, bright and beautiful. Follow all the action on and off the runway at dallasnews.com/style.
Sun worship
Michael Kors knows how to pick a cheeky theme for each show and blow it out all over his runway to maximum effect, complete with multiple stomping models. As the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations" played overhead at Wednesday morning's show, we got excitations over the sporty cover-ups, "surf" dresses and graphic polka-dot and stripe combos. Does it matter that there isn't a beach near Dallas? "There's color. There's exuberance. It was chic and colorful," Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan exclaimed backstage. "These are clothes to have a good time in...and I know Dallas women love to have a good time."
China chic
Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig showcased another beautifully crafted collection for Marchesa on Wednesday, full of Far East references. It was difficult not to gasp at the couture-like craftsmanship that goes into their over-the-top ball gowns, full of wispy details such as feathers, hand-embroidered flowers and silk folds. Dallas shoppers can get a peek at some of the dynamic duo's creations when they make a stop at NorthPark's Fashion at the Park next month.
Runway Texans
Following an appearance in the September issue of Vogue, Colleyville native Ali Michael continues a model winning streak. We spotted her strutting in Doo.Ri, 3.1 Phillip Lim and Max Azria. The 18-year-old Kim Dawson beauty graduated from Grapevine High School last spring and has settled in New York. Brittany Woodward, 19, signed with Page Parkes Management less than a year ago and is quickly developing into a little star. With a recent six-figure campaign for Nivea under her belt, she jetted to New York to appear in a few shows. The Allen native was spotted in Trovata and Mischen. Next up? Shooting print ads in LA for sexy shoe label Chinese Laundry. This text is invisible on the page, but this text is affected by the invisible item's flow.
