Fashion Week: Look for neon pops of color next spring

NEW YORK – And they're off! It was a bright and beautiful Sunday in New York, as the fashion flock toweled off from Saturday's downpour and pounded the pavement for some high-energy shows. Follow the action on and off the runway at dallasnews.com/style.

Celebration station

Donna Karan had a big birthday Sunday. Her sporty bridge line celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and her New York City street-themed collection was filled with DKNY standbys – nylon parkas, utilitarian jumpsuits and jersey dresses, with pops of neon everywhere. Even the screaming PETA protestors who hopped onto the runway couldn't rain on her parade. As soon as the crashers were escorted out, scores of DKNY-clad children, models and Ms. Karan herself came out for the finale.

Texas connection

The Lone Star State was fashionably represented Sunday. Lela Rose's sweet collection, full of bright separates and dresses with pretty origami pleats and bow details, kicked off the morning at Bryant Park. When asked what Dallas shoppers will love from her spring line, she quipped, "Color! It's very feminine, very form-fitting and there's great color and great mix of textures."

Over at a hopping venue downtown, Abi Ferrin was busy finalizing all the styling details for her print-filled collection. "I feel like I just gave birth," she said after the show. The house was packed with many of Dallas' fete set, who clapped and hollered throughout the show. Coming soon: Ms. Ferrin has been tapped to design the employee uniforms for the Joule's soon-to-open lounge, PM.

Summer loving

Patrick Robinson's second presentation for Gap was a fun, versatile mix of travel-ready pieces (lightweight trench coats, breezy white summer dresses, slouchy trousers) on models who casually posed in a presentation. He said the sexy, color-block swimsuits were his favorites in the collection.

"Spring and summer is the one time of year that is all about ease. I wanted to capture the sense of optimism that's in the air ... a sense of a new America," he told reporters. You can score fall pieces by the former Perry Ellis and Armani designer in Gap stores and online now.
