New this week in DVDs12:00 AM CDT on Friday, May 9, 2008I'M NOT THERE: Six actors play characters who represent different elements of Bob Dylan's mutable persona in this film and intellectual exercise from director Todd Haynes. Plenty for Dylanphiles to latch on to, but even more to alienate viewers who wonder what the heck is going on here. It will be loved and loathed. Starring Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Christian Bale, Marcus Carl Franklin, Ben Whishaw and Charlotte Gainsbourg. FIRST SUNDAY: Ice Cube and Tracy Morgan are larcenous, underemployed losers who find themselves in trouble with the law and decide to rob a local church to fix their cash problem. It's stuffed with funny throwaway bits, but the movie's timeworn path goes flat after about 45 minutes. Also starring Katt Williams and Loretta Devine. Directed by David E. Talbert. OVER HER DEAD BODY: Wan, sad-eyed romantic comedy stars Eva Longoria Parker as a ghost who tries to keep a psychic from unscrupulously taking up with her fiancé. When writer- director Jeff Lowell runs out of things to recycle from other afterlife romances, he turns to the most generic romantic-comedy clichés. Also starring Paul Rudd, Lake Bell and Jason Biggs. P.S. I LOVE YOU: Before a man (Gerard Butler) dies, he writes a series of letters intended to help his wife (Hilary Swank) make it through her mourning period. P.S. I Love You is manipulative, too long and loaded with the bizarre stereotypes of so-called women's movies. Some tears were jerked, however, and there were a handful of nice moments. Also starring Kathy Bates and Lisa Kudrow. Directed by Richard LaGravenese.
