Big D gets Real D for 'Monster House'

10:49 AM CDT on Friday, July 21, 2006

Five Dallas-area theaters will show Monster House in the digital 3-D process known as Real D.

Cinemark's two Plano locations, Legacy and Tinseltown, and Rave's Fort Worth multiplexes at Northeast Mall and Ridgmar Mall, as well as Rave Hickory Creek will present the animated feature in the three-dimensional format.

Digital Real D allows brighter images and sharper contrasts and requires the use of lightweight glasses that viewers may keep as souvenirs.

Rave successfully introduced the area to Real D last November with the release of Chicken Little in its theaters.

Tim Burton's 1993 cult favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas will be rereleased this fall in Real D, and its reissue will be hyped with a Real D trailer.

Other upcoming Real D films include 2007's Meet the Robinsons, an animated feature about a youthful genius inventor.
