USA Film festival to host classic cinematographer and one of his classics
The USA Film Festival kicks off Monday with the knowledge that it's no longer the big-ticket item in town. That distinction now goes to AFI Dallas. Interview with 'My Blueberry Nights' star Norah Jones
Evan Agostini / AP Norah Jones says she "had a blast" starring in My Blueberry Nights but prefers her day job of making music. My Blueberry Nights has been widely proclaimed as the acting debut of one Norah Jones, Grammy-laden graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Except that's not quite true. "All the drama students at Booker T. Washington got to do a play when they were seniors," she says by phone from New York. Good times. But chances are slim that director Wong Kar Wai was in the house at Booker T. that night. Review and showtimes for My Blueberry Nights Blog: More from Norah Jones at The Screening Room

Austin's Okkervil River gets audience humming, thinking
It's hard to tell if Okkervil River singer Will Robison Sheff is drunk when he performs. When the frontman feels it so intensely, the easiest thing to do is follow suit.

AFI Dallas International Film Festival brought glamour and quality movies to town
Dallas likes its stars big and its carpets red. It likes image and glamour. And the AFI Dallas International Film Festival, which drops the curtain on its sophomore year today, had all of that in spades.Charlize Theron? Yeah, she was here with her latest, Battle in Seattle. Robert De Niro? He took part in a rare Q&A in support of the Hollywood-insider comedy What Just Happened? There was even a dash of old Hollywood courtesy of Mickey Rooney, who for all I know is still spinning war stories on the stage of the Majestic.

Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger captured in 'Shine a Light'
Michael Hogue / Staff illustration The Rolling Stones are a perpetual-motion machine onstage, led by zigzagging 64-year-old ageless wonder Mick Jagger. He moves fast – almost as fast as Martin Scorsese talks. Mr. Scorsese's enthusiasm, for filmmaking and for the Stones, bubbles forth like a geyser, the words barely keeping up with the thoughts. 'Under the Same Moon' focuses on the human dimension
Fox Searchlight Pictures Kate Del Castillo and Adrian Alonso star in Under the Same Moon, which opens Wednesday. Anti-immigration talk bubbles to the surface in election years and burbles from the mouth of Lou Dobbs seemingly every minute. It's been a rallying cry from the days of the 19th-century Know Nothing movement to today's skirmishes in Farmers Branch. But for those on the outside, the talk often lacks a human dimension. And that's where movies enter the picture. More: Review and showtimes for Under the Same Moon Blog: The Screening Room
