Alan Peppard on Jason Kidd, Larry McMurtry, Tomas de la Mata and others

Just two months ago, Dallas Maverick Jason Kidd put up his 100th career triple-double. It looks as if he's going for whatever the romantic equivalent of a triple-double is in his personal life with a new Danish supermodel squeeze.

Last year, he filed for divorce from his wife, Joumana, mother of his three children. In January of this year, the New York Post announced that model Hope Dworaczyk was pregnant with Jason's child.

Then earlier this month came reports that he had moved on from Hope to Denmark-born Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model May Andersen.

Last weekend, Jason left Dallas and jetted to the Hamptons to attend May's 26th birthday party Saturday night at the Pink Elephant, the oh-so-hip, oh-so- romantic club in Southampton, N.Y.

The former New Jersey Net and current Maverick is not May's first Kid. Last year, she was linked with Pam Anderson ex Kid Rock.

Jason was just picked as a member of Team USA to play in the Olympics this summer in Beijing.

Nasher gets McMurtry

In the parlance of TV talk shows, the Nasher Sculpture Center has a great get. AFI Dallas will welcome author and screenwriter Larry McMurtry and his writing partner, Diana Ossana, to speak at the July 17 installment of the Nasher Salon Series.

Mr. McMurtry grew up just 150 miles from here in Archer City and still has a home there. But Audrey Hepburn's line, "I don't want to be alone, I want to be left alone," could easily apply to Mr. McMurtry. Bubbly and gregarious, he ain't.

While he famously penned The Last Picture Show, Terms of Endearment and Lonesome Dove, his body of work with Ms. Ossana is also impressive. The duo picked up a 2005 Academy Award for their screenplay adaptation of the Annie Proulx story Brokeback Mountain.

They also collaborated on the semifictionalized book Pretty Boy Floyd and the Western novel Zeke and Ned.

Fairmont memories

Last Friday, the Fairmont had a time-machine vibe as people with history at the hotel came to a farewell luncheon for Tomas de la Mata, the dapper Spaniard who is retiring as catering director after 34 years at the downtown landmark.

Among those on hand were architect Jim Augur, who worked closely with the Fairmont chain's legendary owner Ben Swig on the Dallas property; Dorothy Schnallinger, wife of the hotel's first GM Max Schnallinger; and Jane Lombardi, ex-wife of former Venetian Room manager Alberto Lombardi.

Tomas told of the night restaurateur Joe Campisi was taken to the hotel in a limousine with windows covered so he couldn't see out. The car was driven into a freight elevator and lifted to the second-floor Regency Room.

When Joe stepped from the car, 1,000 guests shouted a surprise "Happy birthday!"
