Alan Peppard: David Lee Roth finds the bus just as suite

Best job in Dallas last week? David Lee Roth's housekeeper. The lead singer of Van Halen was checked into one of the most expensive suites at the Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. But Diamond Dave slept on his tour bus parked outside.

Could that have anything to do with the fact that Van Halen's Canadian counterparts, the members of Rush, were also staying at the Mansion for their Friday show at Fair Park?

View from the inside

When international social star and fashion designer Carolina Herrera greeted the local swells at her new boutique in Highland Park Village on Thursday night, PaperCity magazine owner and editor-in-chief Holly Moore was up from Houston to co-host.

Holly revealed that she's been editing something weightier (literally) than the glossy PaperCity.

This fall, Assouline will publish a book of interiors of homes culled from PaperCity profiles over the years. The book is titled Domestic Art: Curated Interiors From the Pages of PaperCity. Among the highlights will be the Dallas homes of Neiman Marcus exec Ken Downing and event planner Todd Fiscus, as well as the Houston home of the late arts patron Dominique de Menil.

"The de Menil house was the first residence ever done by Philip Johnson," says Holly.

(Last year, Ms. de Menil's daughter Adelaide de Menil got a whopping $103 million for her 40-acre oceanfront estate in East Hampton, N.Y.)

Scratchin' at Ghostbar

When we were kids, scratching a record on the turntable was something to be avoided. But that was before Jazzy Jeff.

One of the best scratch/turntable artists on the DJ scene, Jazzy Jeff is coming to Dallas' Ghostbar for a May 6 gig.

Back before he was a movie star, Will Smith was a hip-hopper in the group DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. Russell Simmons signed them to Jive Records and their first album, Rock the House, was released in 1987.

When Mr. Smith made the leap to acting with his TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Jazzy Jeff came along for the ride, appearing in 42 episodes.

Look for Jeff to be getting jiggy with it in the DJ booth at Ghostbar.
