Tony Romo to speak at prostate cancer benefit08:27 AM CDT on Friday, April 25, 2008With his birthday romp with Jessica Simpson over, Tony Romo will turn serious next week when he joins his father, Ramiro Romo, for the Baylor Health Care System Foundation's EveryMan Dinner benefiting prostate cancer research. The elder Romo was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year. Both will speak at the Wednesday evening dinner at the Ritz-Carlton.
Stedman's private time
Stedman Graham (a.k.a. Oprah's main squeeze) was in town to speak at Wednesday's Family Gateway luncheon, but he made time to connect with his and Oprah's Dallas pals, billionaires Annette and Harold Simmons. The $50 million Santa Barbara compound where Oprah and Stedman relax is just around the corner from the Simmons estate, and the two couples are friends. Harold Simmons is getting out and about now that he has a new kidney, donated by his daughter Amy Alford. Tuesday night, Stedman, Annette and Harold attended a dinner at The Club in the Centrum, hosted by PlainsCapital banker Alan White and his wife, Lee Ann. The group dined in The Club's Game Room on cuisine prepared by chef Amador Mora, who recently moved over to The Club from its sibling eatery, Trece.
On the Lam
In honor of the new TOD's boutique in NorthPark, the design firm's creative director Derek Lam was feted at the art-filled house of Dallas Museum of Art board chair Marguerite Hoffman. The evening honored patrons of this weekend's Art Ball. TOD execs Claudio Castiglioni, Marco Giacometti and Peter Tannebam marveled at Marguerite's jaw-dropping art collection, featuring works by Jasper Johns, Mark Rothko, Gerhard Richter, Ellsworth Kelly, etc. Among the guests were Peggy Sewell and her daughter, Jacquelin , co-chairs of Saturday night's Art Ball at the DMA; billionaire banker Jerry Ford and his wife, Kelli; and art collectors Cindy and Howard Rachofsky.
Guarding Calderón
State troopers guarding overpasses Tuesday on the Tollway? Dallas police surrounding the Rosewood Crescent with 40 motorcycle cops in the hotel driveway? Was it Bush? Cheney? Neither. All that security was for Mexico's President Felipe Calderó n, who came to Dallas following a NAFTA summit with President George W. Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Just the sing
The divas keep coming through. Aretha Franklin was camped out at the Stoneleigh Hotel for a week while here for her Nokia concert. Next came Patti LaBelle, who headlined Dallas Black Dance Theatre's gala at its new home in the Arts District. Ms. LaBelle was headquartered at Hotel Palomar.
