This Oak Lawn joint housed in the location of the original Black-Eyed Pea is a tribute to all things yardbird. The chicken drumstick lollipops are deeply smoky and tender, the fried chicken skins addictive, and dishes like the chicken soup and the pot pie are generous and richly flavored. The fried chicken, marinated for 24 hours before its bath in hot oil, is moist and herbaceous; the roasted and toasted half chicken is juicy, with a crisp, peppery skin; the boneless grilled sin killer chicken is a little fruity, a little sweet, a little spicy. The main dishes come with rib-sticking sides like a creamy brie mac ‘n’ cheese and, appropriately, black-eyed peas. Full bar, with two dozen or so beers and a brief wine list. --Mark Vamos/Guide
