All the Details

The menu at Mesero, the third entry in the small yet expanding empire belonging to Mico Rodriguez, the restaurateur who created Mi Cocina (with which he split ties in 2008), doesn’t veer far from the familiar, but the plates are designed with a modern touch, and the cooking is vivid and focused. As a starter, the well-made ceviche tumbles apart at the touch of your fork. Stews, especially the puerco pasilla, taste like heartfelt Mexican home cooking. The salsas, five in all — ranging from a tangy salsa verde dubbed “mesero” to a silky-hot “pacho” — are uncommonly good. You’ll definitely want them if you order the carne asada, flavorful beef nicely grilled with sliced onions, serrano chiles and bell peppers, even better when wrapped in a flour tortilla and slathered with one of those salsas. Could this be Rodriguez's next Mi Cocina? It's entirely possible. Full bar. Leslie Brenner/Guide
