Leslie Brenner Recommends

This Korea Town spot is a great place for food adventurers and lovers of Korean cooking. The banchan (assorted Korean side dishes) are excellent, and the Korean barbecue is done over live coals -- a rarity. Tip: To drink, try makkoli, a lightly sweet Korean rice wine similar to nigori (the cloudy style) sake.

The dining room is pretty bare-bones, but the cooking is quite good at this Korea Town spot offering everything from barbecue (grilled at your table over live coals or in the kitchen) to simple grilled or steamed fish to hot pots, stews, bibimbap and more. Standouts include seafood pancakes (pajun), yangnyum galbi gui (marinated short ribs grilled at the table), doeji bossam (steamed pork belly with cabbage wraps and daikon kimchi) and bul nak jeongol (beef and octopus hot pot with udon-like noodles). Do try makkoli — lightly fizzy Korean rice wine sipped from bowls. Beer, Korean fruit wines, sake, soju and makkoli. Leslie Brenner/Guide
