See Kelly Clarkson obliterate the Idol stage, plus all the night's songs ranked

It was Kelly Clarkson night on American Idol and what a delicious treat it was. Kelly didn't simply performance her latest single "Heartbeat Song" and mentor the performances, she ruled the night. How did she do that, you may ask? Well, someone had the genius idea of having Kelly sing "At Last" right after showing a clip of her original audition with the same song. It was bonkers. Ms. Kelly Clarkson schooled not only the contestants this season, but every other contestant on the show's past. A vocal masterclass.

Also of note, there were more American Idol winners in the audience. Candice Glover who on two seasons ago was there and said she was working on her 2nd album (You should watch her performance of Love Song, it's amazing) and Ruuuuuuben Studdard, who won season over Clay Aiken, was also there and even got to hand the results to Ryan Seacrest (Really? And you let David Hasselhoff sing a full on medley last week? Shame on you, producers.) Vonzell Solomon, a finalist on season two which I really liked back then, was also there.

But back to the music. The night's theme was Kelly Clarkson's Songbook and while some of the contestants had terrific performances, some of them simply didn't rise up to the challenge.  Soulful crooner Clark Beckham had what was in my opinion the best performance of the night, followed by Quentin Alexander who's always so cool. I also loved Joey Cook, because she always brings a new air of quirkiness to her performances. Jax also had one of her best performances, even if we missed some of those fun arrangements she usually brings. Hopefully next week she'll bring that back. Tyanna Jones was okay, not bad at all, but not my favorite performance of hers. Neither was Nick Fradiani's, he's kinda boring me. Qaasim Middleton's rendition of "Stronger" was very, very bad. And FINALLY, Daniel Seavey was sent home when Rayvon Owen got more Twitter votes on Idol's new Twitter Save, which was concocted made for this exact reason.

Here's my ranking of the top 8 performances from best to worst, plus Kelly's performance of "Heartbeat Song"
