The Hulk now protects Irving, as actor Lou Ferrigno is named an honorary police officer

Actor and bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno protected a lot of fictional people as the titular hero in TV's The Incredible Hulk. This week, he symbolically signed on to protect the people of Irving when he was sworn in as an honorary police officer.

Ferrigno, who will remain in D-FW through the weekend as a special guest at the Texas Pinball Festival in Frisco, has a lot of real experience in this area. He has worked for law enforcement agencies in California, Arizona and Ohio. His father was a lieutenant policeman in New York.

"I love Texas," Ferrigno tweeted after being sworn in. He posted a photo of himself holding an Incredible Hulk painting, which was painted by an Irving PD officer.

"Wonderful police department -- more than just police officers, they care about community -- community and trust."

The Irving Police Department is no stranger to raising awareness through pop culture. In 2016 the department went viral with a video about Pokemon Go.
