'Serial' podcast to become television show by directors of 'The Lego Movie'

Serial, the podcast by Sarah Koenig and Julie Snyder that was likely playing in your earbuds last fall, is becoming a television show.

Deadline reports that Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, writers and directors of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street have optioned the rights to the podcast for a cable television show. The script would likely follow the making of a Serial podcast, but the case being investigated is not clear. It will not follow the case of Hae Min Lee that Koenig and Snyder investigated during Season 1.

"Chris and Phil take an unexpected approach to telling stories and that is so appealing to us at Serial," said Synder, co-executive producer for Serial. "Developing a show with them is exciting because we feel like we speak the same language, only they're smarter than us."
