Is Plano's only nightclub worth a visit?

VNYL is the newest addition to the North Dallas nightlife scene, and its two-story upscale interior -- complete with VIP spaces and bottle service options -- resonates with a Las Vegas-style vibe. The big difference is that when you exit this plush nightspot, rather than be greeted by the Fountains of Bellagio on the Las Vegas Strip, you find yourself in the midst of the Shops at Legacy in Plano, staring at the Angelika Film Center.

VNYL, located at 5800 Legacy Drive Suite C-11, is in the spot that previously housed live music venue The Brixton. The new, rebranded incarnation of the space is a nightclub that is open Thursday through Saturday evenings from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Being that it is the only true nightclub in the neighborhood, the crowd predominantly consists of those from the Plano, Frisco, Addison and McKinney areas ranging in age from 21-40, but it carries the same atmosphere of the hottest spots in Uptown and downtown Dallas.

"We bring in a lot of DJs both from D-FW and nationwide," says VNYL general manager Brandon Novara. "We are strictly a nightclub. We want to bring downtown to Plano and think that Plano needs it."

There is no cover unless there is a special ticketed event, and this is not one of those "clipboard clubs" with a door guy behind a velvet rope pointing out the lucky few who are "on the list." Bottle service options are available, but not required to gain admittance.

Upon entry, the ground floor features a stage with a DJ booth in the center flanked by bottle service couches and tables on either side, which are perfect for those who like to see and be seen and have a view down to the dance floor. The upstairs area is complete with its own bar and features a cordoned off VIP area that is ideal for high profile people (three local professional sports teams headquarters are within a five minute drive) who may drop by the club.

For those not in the immediate area of the Shops at Legacy, an easy Uber or Lyft ride up the Tollway can get you there, and VNYL is worth the trek. Should you make the drive yourself, ample parking is available in the nearby Shops at Legacy garage.

Thursday nights are currently designated as "Service Industry Nights" with specials including $5 Crown and Down and $100 bottles. The crowd picks up between 10:30-11 p.m. when those who work at the local eateries and bars are off work for the evening. Friday and Saturday nights are already crowded by 11 p.m. as guest DJs (including some who spin actual vinyl records) provide entertainment.

"On a Friday or Saturday night when that confetti machine goes off and we shoot the air out, this place is a party with the lights going and the music," Novara says. "The room really generates a vibe."
