Her clients found the 45-year-old woman about 5 a.m. but she died from puncture wounds to her head and chest. Nothing was missing from the church, police said at the time. She left behind a husband and three children.

Surveillance video shows a person dressed in SWAT-type tactical gear walking around the church before Bevers’ arrived and swinging what looked like a hammer.

The person was likely about 5 foot 8 inches and walked with a distinctive gait, with his or her feet turned out from the body, more so on the right foot. Police said that gait may have been temporary, caused by an injury or medical condition, according to Dallas Morning News reports at the time.

Authorities received thousands of tips and investigators traveled across Texas and to other states to follow up on leads but the case remains unsolved.
