Texas country star set to play opening at North Texas' newest outdoor music venue

On May 25, The Sound, the centerpiece of the expansive Cypress Waters mixed-use development in Coppell, will host a grand opening concert featuring Texas country kingpin Pat Green.

Don't look now, but there's another mixed-use development featuring a music venue set to open in North Texas. On May 25, The Sound, the centerpiece of the expansive Cypress Waters mixed-use development in Coppell, off of Beltline Road just north of LBJ Freeway, will host a grand opening concert featuring Texas country kingpin Pat Green.

Similar to another suburban entertainment and office development with a concert-friendly name - the Toyota Music Factory in Irving's Las Colinas district - The Sound is a more than 1-acre park and outdoor music venue with a covered stage and amphitheater. According to a press release, the Billingsley Company development will be "flanked by local Dallas favorite restaurants, commercial headquarters and multifamily residential" ventures.

Local burger and craft beer chain Rodeo Goat and high-end coffee spot Ascension Coffee are two of the announced tenants for The Sound. The Sound has hosted a series of "prelude events" leading up to the May 25 grand opening, including concerts from popular cover bands Emerald City, The Spazmatics and le Freak, as well as pop-up markets from the Boho Market each Friday in May.

There's already a built-in audience for the new concert space, as Cypress Waters is home to a number of apartments and townhomes that house hundreds of residents already. And similar to the new happenings in Las Colinas and other new spaces such as Legacy West in Plano, which features apartments, shopping, restaurants and the Box Garden, its own outdoor concert venue, The Sound seems intent on giving suburbanites, especially ones who live within its own master-planned confines, no reason to ever leave.

Tickets for the Sound's Grand Opening concert featuring Pat Green on Saturday, May 25 are on sale now through eventbrite.com. 7:30 p.m., doors at 6 p.m. $5-$50. The Sound Stage & Amphitheater, 3081 Olympus Blvd., Coppell.
